Jak istotna dla odbioru muzyki jest świadomość, jakim jej twórca jest człowiekiem, co ma na sumieniu? Czy te dwie sfery – twórczą i prywatną – należy rozpatrywać łącznie, czy oddzielnie? Jest generalna reguła czy wyjątki, które by ją potwierdzały? Rzeczy ważne albo mniej ważne, takie, których pominąć się nie da, i inne, o których można zapomnieć, udać, że się ich nie dostrzega?
Życie pokazało, że jeśli o mnie chodzi, jednego od drugiego oddzielić nie potrafię.
Jakiś czas temu był sobie zespół. Tworzyło go czterech Belgów, a zwał się Thee Plague of Gentlemen. Co grał? Dobry, rasowy doom. Zajebiście popularny u nas gatunek, więc pewnie każdy wie, o czym mowa. Twór ten wydał dwa splity, dwie epki, a wreszcie w 2005 roku, nakładem I Hate Records, pierwszą pełną płytę. Jak się miało okazać, pierwszą i ostatnią. Materiał świetny, więc słuchałam go więcej niż często. Po paru tygodniach uznaliśmy nawet, że warto byłoby zrobić z panami wywiad. Kapela niszowa, magazyn podziemny, pytania popłynęły zatem do Steve’a MacMillan’a emailem. Po kilku tygodniach nadeszła wiadomość zwrotna. Zamiast wywiadu, stek niedbałych, bzdurnych, chamskich odpowiedzi. W czym był problem, diabli wiedzą. Może nie był w nastroju. Tak czy owak, skończyło się małą pisaną kłótnią. Tyle kontaktów z mizantropem z Thee Plague, pomyślałam. Trzeba było pozostać przy muzie i darować sobie dziennikarskie podchody. Trochę szkoda, ale i bez dramatu. Steven to przecież nie pierwszy cham, i nie ostatni, który zjawia się i znika w moim otoczeniu. Niestety, czas pokazał, że o MacMillanie miałam jeszcze usłyszeć.
Po jakimś czasie od tego całkiem zbędnego incydentu (minęło może kilka miesięcy) gdzieś w sieci trafiłam na news, z którego jak nic wynikało, że Steven najpierw usłyszał zarzuty, a nieco później trafił za kraty. Skazany za pedofilię. Zaskoczenie i obrzydzenie zarazem. Przeczytałam notkę dwukrotnie, ale nie, niestety, wzrok mnie nie zawodził. Imię, nazwisko, zespół – wszystko się zgadzało. Nie ma zmiłuj. MacMillan to wsadzony do pudła pedofil. Dobrze, że już wsadzony, ale… wiadomość uparcie nie chciała zmieścić mi się w głowie. To nie były tylko niczym niepoparte zarzuty, podejrzenia, spekulacje czy inne złośliwe plotki, ale fakty. A pod newsem, dla dopełnienia obrazu, oświadczenia załamanych kumpli, bezsilnie próbujących odciąć samych siebie, a zwłaszcza zespół, od tych koszmarnych, nie dających spokoju skojarzeń. Thee Plague of Gentlemen próby nie przetrwali. Rozpadli się na kawałki jeszcze przed końcem feralnego roku. Jednocześnie, jeszcze w 2006, trójka sierot po Thee Plague powołała do życia doomowy Serpent Cult.
Mamy 2011, a ja od tamtej pory tak szczerze docenianej kiedyś ‘Primula Pestis’ nie przesłuchałam ani razu. Utrzymana w iście doomowych szarościach ginie w szafie pośród innych tytułów, a mnie jakoś zupełnie nie pali się przypominać sobie te akurat dźwięki. Ilekroć o rzeczonym projekcie pomyślę, skojarzenie zawsze przychodzi to samo. To wystarczy. Nie mam ochoty słuchać jego głosu, nie chcę muzyki, w której ‘maczał’ łapy taki typ. Zwyrodniałe NIC.
